What factors of nursing knowledge could affect health care informatics?

1.) Computer Literacy

Computer skills are vital for medical practitioners of the future. To use technology effectively for the advancement of patient care and the education of the medical students, medical staff must possess a variety of computer skills. Medical field is an information intensive profession. The availability of affordable computers and the advancement of information technology have resulted in our ability to rapidly and effectively access, retrieve, analyze, share, and store large volumes of information pertinent to patient care and for learning process in a teaching hospital. To use technology effectively for the advancement of patient care, the medical faculty must possess a variety of computer skills.

2.) The Language of Nursing

A very important nursing knowledge for us nurses to be able to enhance nursing care is the development of universal nursing data languages. The most prominent of these is the International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP) being developed by the International Council of Nurses (ICN). Having these universal nursing language will help nurses to work on the same page and also greatly improve communication.

3.)  Sharing of Knowledge and Willingness Learn

Not sure if this is a factor or not but this is a very important in a way because there are nurses that are not good and nurses that are good with computers. Having people sharing the knowledge to those willing to learn will greatly improve the nursing informatics technologies usage and effectiveness that will lead to a better nursing care.

In conclusion, there are many other factors of nursing knowledge that are needed in order to use these technologies effectively. These factors are just the ones that in my opinion are the most needed on a health care facility especially on a facility that has just started using these techonologies.
